Our Mission

Caring people, reaching out to each other

At Nashwaaksis United Church, our mission is to be a community of believers in Jesus Christ, focused on Scripture, and led by the Holy Spirit. We are called to exemplify the life and love of Jesus Christ; to nurture our Christian faith through worship, study, fellowship, and service; and to be a caring people, reaching out to each other, our neighbours, and to all God’s people.

Why We Gather

The members of Nashwaaksis United Church need little reason to get together for some fun and fellowship. We know that nothing brightens a room better than sparkling eyes, a warm smile, and a kind word. Gathering together for worship, study, and action we are encouraged in our faith and equipped to share the love of God in Spirit and Truth. Each of us goes out into our neighbourhood and community as a messenger of God’s Good News. We know that our words and deeds make present the gospel of Jesus Christ as they encourage our family, friends, neighbors, and strangers met along the way. In this, as in everything, we give thanks to our living God!

Our Beliefs & Values

United Church faith communities welcome people from all backgrounds and orientations—wherever you are in your faith journey. This section offers an overview of the United Church’s beliefs.

Faith & The Bible

The Bible is the shared standard for our faith, but members are not required to adhere to any particular creed or formulation of doctrine.

Baptism and Communion

The United Church celebrates two sacraments—baptism and communion—by which we encounter the presence and goodness of God.

Marriage

Each person is a unique, loved creation of God; we welcome all people to the full life of Christian community, including marriage.

Relationship and Inclusion

Respectful of the religious practice of all people of goodwill, we are a welcoming church that is challenged to ongoing renewal.

Social Justice

Following the example of Jesus, we believe that we strengthen one another to work, through God’s grace, for a better world.

Giving, Generosity, and Gratitude

God’s endless generosity to us encourages our own response to contribute in many ways to God’s mission in God’s world.
